Mid-Atlantic Field Guide

Plant the bag
like it matters.

Good seed cannot rescue a bad seedbed. These are the rules we want printed in your head before you ever cut open a sack.

1

Test Before You Guess

Pull a soil sample early enough to correct pH and fertility before seed hits the ground.

2

Kill The Competition

Existing sod and aggressive weeds beat seedlings. Control them before planting rather than asking seed to perform a miracle.

3

Build A Firm Seedbed

For broadcast planting, the ideal surface is firm enough that a boot sinks only slightly. Fluffy ground buries small seed too deep.

4

Separate Large & Small Seed

Large cereal and pea seed can tolerate more depth. Clover and brassica seed should stay shallow. Two passes beat one sloppy pass.

5

Cultipack Or Press

Seed-to-soil contact matters. After broadcasting, press the seed into the surface rather than burying it.

6

Plant Into Weather

Use the regional planting window, but favor a credible rain pattern over the calendar when conditions are marginal.

Final label directions control once the production lot is approved. Soil, rainfall, elevation, and local planting date still matter.
